Surgical Care That Thinks About What Happens After the Procedure
Oral surgery isn’t only about removing a tooth or placing an implant.
It’s also about what happens next:
How does the surgical site heal?
How do we protect the surrounding tissue and bone?
How can we create a supportive environment for recovery?
At Natural Focus Dental, our oral-surgery team may incorporate PRF or PRP prepared from
your own blood as an additional healing-support tool when appropriate.
What Are PRF & PRP?
PRF — Platelet-Rich Fibrin
and
PRP — Platelet-Rich Plasma
are platelet concentrates prepared from a small sample of the patient’s own blood.
Both approaches concentrate platelets and blood-derived signaling proteins involved in normal
wound healing. PRF additionally forms a fibrin matrix that can be used in various oral and
maxillofacial surgical applications.
Why Use Your Own Platelets?
- Think about what happens when you get a cut. Your body naturally sends platelets and other healing components to the area. PRF and PRP allow us to prepare a concentrated portion of those patient-derived healing components and, in selected procedures, place them where the body is already beginning the healing process.
When Might We Use PRF or PRP?
Depending on the procedure and the surgeon’s recommendation, platelet concentrates may be
incorporated with:
● Tooth extractions
● Wisdom teeth removal
● Bone grafting
● Socket preservation
● Dental implant procedures
● Other oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures
Research across dentistry has evaluated PRF and PRP for effects on soft-tissue and bone
healing, postoperative discomfort, and surgical recovery. Results vary by procedure, preparation
method, and patient, so we use them as adjuncts—not substitutes for proper surgical
technique and postoperative care.
Part of a Bigger Surgical Plan
Depending on your needs, your surgical protocol may also incorporate:
● Careful site debridement and cleaning
● Ozone as an adjunct when appropriate
● Bone grafting or socket preservation
● Implant planning
● Sedation options
● Personalized postoperative care
